Love List July 2015

posted by yazmin

I’m a little sad to admit that summer is halfway over. The (former) teacher in me secretly hates August. It’s just a reminder that school is going to start up again. Thankfully we’ve been taking full advantage of the nice weather and we still have about a month until my little ones start preschool (sniff, sniff).

Love List July 2015

This month was spent exploring new ways to stay cool, and celebrating upcoming weddings and babies. Here are my top five favorite things from July.

Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart

Early in the month we went to see Kevin Hart live at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. We’ve wanted to see him for a long time but our schedules never lined up with his tour. Kevin Hart is one busy man. He seems to be everywhere. His stand-up was really funny. I love that he appeals to so many different types of people. I’d definitely see him again.

Rock-A-Baby Sprinkle

Boys Rock Baby Shower

My best friend is having a baby boy in September and I’m so happy that we were able to celebrate by throwing a baby sprinkle. The sprinkle was a rock and roll theme to match the new nursery. Her sister decorated with adorable onesies that said “Boys Rock!” — how cute is that! The sprinkle was a surprise and I was so excited to be able to repay her after she threw a sprinkle for me last year.

Kurtz Farm Fireworks

Cheshire 4th of July Fireworks

We kept our 4th of July celebrations pretty low key this year, but we did manage to get out and enjoy some fireworks. Kurtz Farm in Cheshire puts on their own fireworks display and it was awesome. Our neighbor has been telling us about the fireworks for years but we were always a bit skeptical thinking, “How good could private fireworks really be?”. The answer is that they are surprisingly great. It’s become a big event in town complete with police officers directing traffic and an hour worth of traffic to leave, but it was worth it. We’ll definitely check them out again next year.

Teach Me Time Clock

We’ve been having trouble with the girls waking up too early in the morning. Neither Chris nor I are morning people so this doesn’t jive well with us. For a long time we’ve (mostly Chris) has been quickly getting them breakfast and letting Disney Junior babysit until we’re all ready to start our day. It works fine until they learned that they can just come back into our room and disturb us. So I did my research and bought the Teach Me Time Clock. The clock acts a nightlight during the night and then turns green when it’s time to get up. We’ve only had it a few weeks but so far it’s been working well. I do think that I’ll have to add a bit of reinforcement so that they continue to follow the clock, but for now I’m enjoying a little bit more rest in the mornings.

Hair Tutorials

My whole family is in my sister-in-law’s wedding next month. Since dressing 5 people for a wedding is really expensive, I’m trying to save a little bit of money by doing my own hair. I usually have no problem doing my own hair but I wanted to try something new and a little fancier. I’ve been obsessed with watching videos from Missy Sue. She’s got great simple(ish) hair tutorials. I’ve been trying out different looks all summer long. We’ll see what I decide to do for the wedding, but until then I’m learning how to do some pretty impressive hairstyles.
