Fall Foliage at Castle Craig in Meriden, CT

Connecticut is at its best in October. There are tons of events to celebrate fall, the temperature is cool and the leaves are at their peak. There are plenty of places to get a look at the beautiful fall foliage including one of my favorite spots, Castle Craig in Meriden, CT. The views are incredible and you can drive all the way up to the top.

Castle Craig is at the top of East Peak in Meriden. It’s a beautiful drive up a paved road from Hubbard Park. If you’ve never been to Hubbard Park it should definitely be on your places to visit any time of year. They have daffodils in the spring, silver lights during the holidays, trails, fishing, and duck feeding in the summer.

Castle Craig is open from May 1st – October 31st from 10 am to 4:45 pm. The gate closes promptly at 4:45 pm so make sure you’re down before then. It’s a picturesque drive up to the castle with the beautiful fall leaves reflecting into water. There are some turns and narrow spots but overall it’s an easy and beautiful ride up. There are also people who choose to park at the gate and walk up.

TIP: You’ll hit a fork at the top of the road. Go to the left to see Castle Craig.

There is a parking lot only a short walk from the castle with trails and picnic tables around. Castle Craig is actually a tower with a spiral staircase to the top. You’re allowed to go all the way up tower to get the best view. If stairs aren’t your thing, you can still get a beautiful look from below the tower. There is a stone wall to keep everyone safe, but I definitely make sure to keep an extra tight squeeze on my little ones.

The views from the top of Castle Craig are amazing. You can see Sleeping Giant in Hamden, New Haven coast and all the way to the Berkshires. Plan your trip in the middle of October and the fall foliage is incredible.
