Love List January 2016

posted by yazmin

Is anyone else enjoying this mild winter? I love it. I’m happy to have 60 degree days and grilling on Christmas. It’s also been great for building our new home. The weather has really held out and the construction team has been able to move extra fast because of it. One thing that hasn’t changed this winter is the awful illnesses that come with being stuck inside. My house has been an infirmary for the last month with one crazy sickness after another. I’m looking forward to the month ahead for everyone to be feeling a little bit better.

While blogging took the back burner this month I still managed to have some great moments and find some awesome things. Here are a few of my favorite things from January 2016!

Love List January 2016

Building Our House

House Progression

By far the most exciting and time consuming part of this month has been the home building process. It’s an amazing experience seeing it transform from a pile of dirt to a real home where we are going to raise our family. There are a lot of decisions to make and my Pinterest account is overflowing with ideas. We’ve been a part of the whole process and have been able to make changes and modifications along the way. I can’t wait to share the finished product.

The Bachelor

Who doesn’t love Bachelor Ben? I loved him in the last season of the Bachelorette and am so excited they chose him to be the Bachelor this season. The Bachelor is definitely one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I love the drama, the fantasy, and of course, cutie Ben. So far I think Lauren B. is in the lead? Who do you think is the front runner?

Maple Bacon Cake

Bacon Maple

I love to cook. It’s something that I’m good at and enjoy doing. Baking on the other hand is a completely different story. I hate following a recipe and measuring. I put things in the oven and pray that they’re cooked and taste good. I usually go for boxed baked goods (gasp!), but I have recently found something even better than a box, pourable cake! Stop & Shop recently asked if I’d try their new line of Bacon & Maple flavored products and of course I said yes. What’s better than maple and bacon? Combining the two flavors into delicious desserts and snacks. My favorite product so far has been a pourable maple flavored cake. While cooking dinner I poured the cake into a dish and 25 minutes later I had a fresh baked cake to share with the whole family. I loved how easy it was, how little cleanup there was and it was extra yummy too!

Adult Coloring Books

I have jumped aboard the adult coloring book bandwagon. I bought myself a new coloring book complete with “mommy only” pencils. It’s an activity that I can enjoy with my kids or on my own. It’s supposed to be a stress reliever. I like that it can be a shared activity with the kids or something I enjoy for a few moments on my own away from the chaos of the house. It’s a tiny step toward spending more time on my own.

Photo Charm

Shutterfly Photo Charm

Last month when I ordered my Christmas cards from Shutterfly I also ordered myself a little photo charm. I originally did it to so I didn’t have to pay for shipping (am I the only one who rather by more things than pay for shipping?), but it’s been one of my favorite recent purchases. The photo is of my 3 kids taken during our fall family photos. I put it on a chain and wear it around my neck. I love keeping those little ones close to my heart. I also love how each child has recognized the necklace and constantly compliment me on it. It’s super sweet and was really affordable (less than $35). It’s a modern day locket and would make a great gift.
