Elizabeth Park Rose Garden in West Hartford, CT
1561 Asylum Avenue – West Hartford, CT
The roses are in bloom! The roses are in bloom! I have been waiting all year for the roses to bloom at Elizabeth Park Rose Garden in West Hartford, CT.
We went to Elizabeth Park this past weekend to view the roses. Many other people had the same idea including two weddings. This was my first time being at the park to see the roses. The scenery was breathtaking. I can see why so many people plan their weddings and wedding pictures with the roses as a backdrop.
The park is on the Hartford/West Hartford town line. It is listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places. The rose garden is the oldest and third largest in the country. It’s great to have such a beautiful place in our own backyard.
As you enter into the garden you walk through one of the rose covered arches. The sweet subtle rose aroma hits you as you enter into the garden.
All spring I’ve been trying to teach my girls to smell flowers instead of picking them. They had a great time smelling and picking up petals from the ground.
My favorite roses were named Scentimental. They had a beautiful wave of light and dark pink color throughout with equally great scent.
We had brought along a blanket and picnic lunch but there is also a snack bar and Pond House Cafe at the park. If you’re in the mood for something sweet and refreshing there was a pushcart serving Italian ice.
When we were done looking at the roses. We walked over to the pond to check out the ducks before heading home.
We could have spent all day at the park but we needed to get home in time for naps. We hope to come back later in the summer. Maybe we’ll check out one of their free concerts in the park.
If you’re free this weekend and in the Hartford area I would highly recommend going to see the rose garden.
