Living in Connecticut it is not unusual to see a flock of turkeys on someone’s lawn or a group of them crossing the road. What is unusual is seeing fourteen turkeys dyed bright colors, but that’s exactly what you’ll find when you visit Gozzi’s Turkey Farm in Guilford, CT.

CT Turkey Farm

Gozzi’s Turkey Farm is a family run business for over 70 years. They sell fresh turkeys during the holiday season. I think they’re best known in the “mom circle” for their live colored turkeys. Every year the colored turkeys make their debut during the first week in November and stay out until Christmas. They are out every day from 8:30 – 4:30.

I took the kids to witness first-hand a group of turkeys that more closely resembled Easter eggs than your traditional bird. We admired their vibrant hues of yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, green and a few that were white. The girls declared that pink and orange were their favorites while I was a bit more partial to the blue.

I’m not sure how they dye the turkey’s feathers such bright colors but I’m sure it’s probably similar to the way celebrities dye their poodles to match their outfits.

The turkeys were all together in a large pen. They were curious of people and came up to us. Many people grabbed nearby grass to feed the birds, but I suggest that you watch your fingers because they do peck!

Our visit only lasted about fifteen minutes but it was a cute activity to do a few weeks before Thanksgiving.  An activity that I can see being a holiday tradition for many families in the area.
